It was time for her to leave.
Never had she felt so sure she was doing the right thing. She couldn't stay in this paradise of decay and madness built by her best friend. This place was hurting her so much that all she thought about, was tearing a hole in the crooked landscape and falling off back to her boring but normal, everyday life. She was wondering if she had built Wonderland or she had fallen into a well-designed trap. Alice...was that her real name? There were so many things she had forgotten while playing around and wasting her time in a place she did not belong. She looked at the pocket watch the Hatter had given to her and she noticed that it had stopped. It had stopped working a long time ago, before she had received it. She felt so stupid she wished she could smash the watch into her own forehead. She always kept forgetting that a broken watch is unfit for a present except if you don't want to give it to your enemy. Alice fiercely threw it onwards to the nearest wall and it broke in pieces. "There you go, if you still think I care, you mindless git", she muttered.
Meanwhile, the Hatter was sitting in his armchair in his Blue Room, drinking tea and watching the map on the ceiling, with all the different Wonderlands he had created. There were gaping burnt holes, where other Wonderlands had once existed. He sensed there was a disturbance in one of his creations. The Mad Hatter took his ladder, climbed up and looked closely at his ceiling. "Who does she think she is, lost little girl...", he thought. In a matter of seconds he appeared before Alice, while she was feeling one of the walls for a possible crack.
"What is this? What have you done to my presents?", the Hatter shouted. His trembling finger was pointing at a pile of clothes, paintings and toys - all of them were gifts from him.
"I can't wait to see your face when you see this...", said Alice, raised her fist and opened it under his nose. There lay the broken pocket watch, a symbol of Wonderland and their friendship.
"What's got into you?! Why are you doing this to me? Is it a revenge because you found out you're not the only Alice? Are you taking it out on me because I was the star at your Birthday Tea Party? If it wasn't for me you would be looking after a bunch of rabbits, all alone, you conniving little bitch!!! Yes, everything revolves around me, I can't imagine you leading the parade, because you are plain and boring. And I MADE you. You don't have any good ideas, ever, and you always ruin the fun, like you are doing now! Alright...let me calm down and we will think of something..."
The Hatter was pacing nervously to and fro, holding his head in his hands.
"Did you ever care about any one of us?", asked Alice, "Or did you just call us your friends simply because you wanted to look like you can maintain a real friendship? Creating illusions and having people believe them is not very friendly, did you know that?"
He gave her the most disappointed look.
"How can you tell when you didn't even have friends before I appeared?"
"Please don't get sarcastic with me, I know you found us all amusing and easy to lead on. But we're not stupid eith--"
"Ha ha ha!", he interrupted her, "Three years was long enough to see if you are stupid or not. Sure you are intelligent but you are still a massive idiot. If you were smart enough you would listen to me, and now you're about to be left all alone...well, unless you apologise often enough and promise to be always by my side, then I might forgive you and make you my best friend again. Just admit your mistakes, my dear. Don't make it more awkward. Come on, don't frown, you're making the tea I've made sour and by all signs, I can tell, you've got a fever."
Alice rolled her eyes.
"Do you think that after all of this I will just keep being your pretty anonymous sidekick you like to carry around in your cage? I'm not a part of your delusional theatre anymore. I don't want to be a lifeless hollow doll."
"Sorry but you are hollow, with or without me. You have nothing to offer to the world. You will never be able to create a world like this, even if you did your best. Someday when everyone has turned their back on you, you will crawl back to me and you will tell me how wrong you've been about everything. And I won't even turn my gorgeous ginger head in your direction. You don't deserve any of my attention, Alice, I am sorry I tried to help you because you never listen. Thankless child. Do you see any of the other girls rebel like that? No. Because they adore me. They are faithful friends, unlike yourself. You are just a sadistic little bitch who likes to waste people's time."
While the Hatter was leading a self-righteous monologue and didn't appear to pay attention to the environment, Alice ran towards the other end of the forest, reaching the Red Queen's gates. She knew the Red Queen was under the Hatter's control and that she held the key to her Wonderland, which meant that was her only means of escape from that wretched place. She put her hands in the pockets of her brown Victorian dress. There were a few After Eight and two Mozart chocolates. Those were pretty much useless. She searched more through her pockets and she finally found the vial which contained a small amount of cider. Alice needed some strength of spirit, after all, and since the chocolates no longer made her big or small, she had to gain a lot of courage to sneak in the Red Queen's castle and steal the Key. This was going to be a very difficult task, since the Queen kept the key on a thin but strong silver chain, always around her neck...[...]
